Don't Become a victim of "spoofing"

03/13/2018 News

Dear Policyholders,

This week, GPM Life has received notification from multiple callers, none of which were GPM Life policyholders, that they have received nuisance telephone calls which, from the caller I.D. display, appear to have originated from GPM Life’s telephone number, (210-357-2222).  After investigating these calls, GPM Life has reason to believe its telephone number has been “spoofed.”

“Spoofing”, as defined by the Federal Communications Commission, occurs when a caller deliberately falsifies the information transmitted to your caller I.D. display to disguise their identity.  According to the Federal Communications Commission, “Spoofing” is often times used to gain valuable personal information which can be used in fraudulent activity or sold illegally.  More “Spoofing” information can be found on the Federal Communications Commission website located at:

 https://www.fcc.gov/consumers/guides/spoofing-and-caller-id

GPM Life suggests that if you receive a telephone call which appears to be from GPM Life, please take steps to verify that the telephone caller is a GPM Life representative by requesting the caller’s telephone extension and telling the caller you will return their call by calling the Home Office toll-free number at (800) 938-4765.  If you have any reason to believe the call is not from a GPM Life representative, we advise you not give out any personal information to the caller.  “Spoofing” does not expose any of your personal information, unless you give that information to the caller.  As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call us, (800-938-4765).
