A Proud Past…
In 1934, during the dark days of the Depression, Colonel P.J. Hennessey, a retired Army officer, set out to establish a new and different kind of insurance company - a company that would for the first time, provide family protection to the qualified United States Military Servicemember in time of war or peace without a war clause. Government Personnel Mutual Life Insurance Company was unique in the history of American insurance - a company designed from the outset to serve the needs of Military personnel. In 1938, when Blanche Hennessey was elected President of the Company, she was the first woman in the history of the United States insurance industry to claim that distinction.
A Solid Present…
The years have long since proven the soundness of Colonel Hennessey's idea. Born in the midst of the Depression, GPM Life (as the Company is now commonly referred) has survived three major wars to grow and prosper. Today, GPM Life ranks among the strongest, most respected financial institutions in the nation.
GPM Life has always maintained a very sound approach to the secure investment of policyowner funds. This is evidenced by a long record of profitability and the fact that GPM Life has an "A- (Excellent)" rating by A. M. Best, an insurance rating agency, along with "top 20%" rating of all life and health insurers by Weiss Research, Inc., (an independent rating agency).
As a mutual company, GPM Life is owned by its policyowners who share in the profits of GPM Life through dividends and interest credits on existing policies. GPM Life has earned the distinct reputation of serving the interest of the valued policyowner first, often to the extent that GPM Life has extended liberalized benefits to existing policyowners for no additional consideration.
In the same spirit of leadership that is imbedded in the Company's roots, GPM Life has now evolved to offer a wide-range of competitive financial products for Military Servicemembers, Federal Civil Service Government Employees, and the general Civilian population. GPM Life is now proud to serve over 70,000 such individuals in this capacity.
GPM Life has comprehensive marketing programs for five (5) specialized markets: 1) Active Duty Military Servicemembers, 2) Federal Civil Service Employees, 3)Civilian Families, 4) Retired Military Individuals,
5) Simplified Issue Senior Market Sales.. We also serve the financial needs of the general Civilian populace with programs and products customized for retirement planning, wealth accumulation, estate liquidity and final expense planning.
As a result of this continuing attitude and effort, GPM Life has been able to develop a close, effective working relationship with its field force…a group which ranges in experience from long time veteran agents to relatively new associates. These agents generally find GPM Life products and services to be a good fit in a wide range of market applications.
